We are proud to announce that Dr. Erik Chaput, WRA’s Social Science Department faculty member, has had another paper printed, this time in the historic journal Reviews in American History, published by John Hopkins University Press and available online on Project Muse.
His paper “Lincoln’s Democratic Synthesis,” cites works such as Abraham Lincoln: A Life by Michael Burlingame, Our Ancient Faith: Lincoln, Democracy, and the American Experiment by Allen Guelzo, and Lincoln’s God: How Faith Transformed a President and a Nation by Joshua Zeitz.
A brief excerpt from the paper establishes that during the sesquicentennial celebration of the Civil War (2010-2015), the publishing market saw an influx of biographies and studies on Abraham Lincoln, despite the saturation of the genre. Historians like David Reynolds, Sidney Blumenthal, and Jon Meacham continued to explore Lincoln's life, particularly his understanding of democracy, which remains highly relevant today as democratic values face challenges globally.
Congratulations to Dr. Chaput for another impressive work to add to a growing list of literary accomplishments!
