The Academic Center (TAC) is ready to support our students by providing guidance for the improvement of academic skills, tracking student progress and facilitating communication with faculty. With four learning specialists on staff, there is always someone ready to help — and they’re easy to find, with their offices conveniently located in our John D. Ong Library!
When a student visits the TAC, they receive individualized attention focused on developing effective study skills, improving organization and time management strategies, practicing writing and critical-reading skills, and reviewing key concepts within specific content areas.
Students may be referred to TAC by their advisors or teachers at any time during the year. Appointments with tutors are scheduled during free periods in the academic day. Some students visit TAC weekly for the entire year, while others cycle into the schedule for several weeks and then return to working independently. TAC provides students with a new perspective on their academic work and an additional point of adult contact, complementing well-established relationships with teachers and advisors.
One of the newer initiatives launched by TAC is our student tutoring program. Peer Tutoring allows ample opportunity for students to meet with other students to receive one-on-one help or study groups — whether it’s a writing workshop, a mathematics review, a brush up on French 2 or more.
