Christopher Burner '80, Head of School

Head of School Christopher Burner has a long relationship with WRA. Since graduation in 1980, he has worked in the Deans Office, as a Latin teacher, as Dean of Faculty & Administration and as Director of Admission and Financial Aid. Along with these responsibilities, Mr. Burner has coached football, wrestling and lacrosse. Mr. Burner, his wife, Alison, their children, Matthew '12 and Abigail reside in Pierce House.

William A. Bugg III, Assistant Head of School

Mr. Bugg came to WRA in 2008 after working in three independent schools in Georgia, New Jersey and South Carolina over the past 20 years. Mr. Bugg, who earned his B.A. in Classical Studies from Davidson College in 1987 and M.A. in Latin from the University of Georgia in 1995, resides in WRA's David Hudson House -- the oldest home in Summit County, Ohio (1806) -- with his wife, Sally, and sons William, James and Thomas.

James (Jay) A. Gundy III, Assistant Head of School for Advancement

Jay Gundy came to WRA in 2009 from the University of Virginia where he was the vice president of development for the Alumni Association and executive director of the Jefferson Trust. A graduate of Wittenberg University and the University of Virginia, Mr. Gundy has an extensive career in independent schools and higher education. Mr. Gundy and his wife, Kim, live in Ellsworth Hall. The Gundys have a daughter, Wallace, and a son, MacKenzie.

Kathryn Mueller, Dean of Faculty

A graduate of the University of Michigan and Idaho State University, Mrs. Mueller has held positions at secondary and post-secondary institutions. Mrs. Mueller joined WRA in 2003; in 2007, she assumed the post of Mathematics Department Chair and now serves as the Dean of Faculty. Mrs. Mueller and her husband, Brad '78, live in faculty housing on College Street with their sons, Kurt '09 and Jacob.

Anne Sheppard, Dean of Admission & Financial Aid

Mrs. Sheppard came to WRA from The Latin School of Chicago where she was director of admissions and financial aid. Mrs. Sheppard holds a B.A. and an M.A. from Boston College and a master of education from Harvard University. Anne is an active member of the Secondary School Admission Test Board's Professional Development Committee. Anne lives on campus with her husband, Gabriel, and daughter, Anna.

John Tortelli, Chief Financial Officer

A BSBA graduate of John Carroll University and Certified Public Accountant in Ohio, Mr. Tortelli came to WRA after working twelve years with the Swagelok Company in Solon, Ohio as an accountant. Since his arrival, Mr. Tortelli has been responsible for financial and operating activities. In addition, he has served as the Junior Varsity Boys Basketball coach. Mr. Tortelli lives in Valley View, with his wife, Bonnie, and their five children: Angela, Mark '06, Daniel, Alison and Adam '13.

Eugene Thomas, Director of College Guidance

Before coming to WRA, Mr. Thomas worked for Costa Rican-North American Binational Cultural Center in San Jose, Costa Rica as director of courses, official translator and educational counselor. Mr. Thomas also teaches Spanish and is the head coach of the girls track and field team. Mr. Thomas and his wife live in a faculty residence on Hudson Street. The couple's daughter, Khalila '97, graduated from Princeton University in 2001.
